Academic Dishonesty
Not doing your own work will result in a lower self-esteem, display a lack of integrity, emphasize your inability to work effectively using math in the kitchen, and could hurt the grades and reputation of you and your accomplice. Copying will result in a zero on that work for all involved students. A second incidence of cheating will result in a 0.0 grade in the class. Never allow others to copy your work! It is okay to help those students who are having difficulties by showing them how to do problems of the same type, but not by doing the homework itself.
Remember, it is okay to compare results and discuss discrepancies, but do not allow others to copy your work nor should you copy the work of others.
Worksheets
Print a copy of each Worksheet and staple it on top of the page or pages showing your work. Put the staple in the top, left-hand corner. Write or print your name clearly in the top, right-hand corner. All work and writing should be in a font 10 or larger. Nothing smaller is acceptable. Use ink or dark pencil. If the writing is difficult to read, the work will be graded as a zero. Write your work only on the topside of your paper. Work on the back will be graded as a zero.
Worksheets
Each worksheet contains application or word problems. You are to show your work for each problem on your paper so the instructor can follow your thought process. For example, suppose You have a problem like this:
Sarah goes to the Math Store and purchases seven pens and five markers. What is her total bill before taxes? This problem requires you to multiply two sets of two numbers and then add the results. Your work for this problem should look something like this:
1.43
2.12
10.01
x 7
x 5
+10.60
10.01
10.60
20.61
Sarah’s total bill for the Math Store is $20.61.
Or your work should look like this:
7 x 1.43 = 10.01
5 x 2.12 = 10.60
10.01 + 10.60 = 20.61
Sarah’s total bill for the Math Store is $20.61.
Notice that the last line should be a grammatically correct English sentence giving the results of your computations as well as the meaning or situation for the results. Always remember to include the units, such as dollars or pounds. Feel free to leave any scratch work on the side of the problem.
